What I Do
I sell tights that I dye by hand. Pictures are on the blog. Contact me for more information.
There are more things I like to do than there is time to do them. I have been seriously involved in crafts for over 10 years. I made my prom dress, which combined my love for sewing and beading. Before and since then I have made many other pieces of clothes and jewelry. These days I make things that can be finished relatively quickly, but given the luxury of time I prefer complex projects. Tiny seed beads are my favorite. I branch out often and make stuffed animals, soap, bound journals, screenprints, paper cutwork, etc., and food.
Ah, food. I am always searching for new and tastier food. I like to go out and find them, and I also like to stay home and craft them. I’ll attempt to make almost any food, but I spend most of my energy on baking. Lately I am testing out gluten-free recipes to accomodate one of my friends. I enjoy cooking challenges. I can get snobby at restaurants (black truffle risotto with a glass of muscato, anyone?), but I can also like terrible junk food. And I say “snobby” in good fun and “terrible” unironically. Eating good food makes me really happy, puts a huge smile on my face. I get ecstatic, with a starry look in my eyes.
In the end, I want to make things and sell them. I want to spread my joy and my pieces out to other people. I want to afford to be able to spend my 9 to 5 making things. I want to afford world travel and a massive personal library.
I adore reading. I used to live for it. I would turn down playdates to read, get distracted in class by reading my own books, ignore my family so that I could read. Get the idea? Now I barely have time for this pleasure. Woe. I wish I knew people who read what I read so we could talk about it. When I can, I mostly read Asimov, popular science, prose literature, and craft how-tos.
I love my family and friends, I love dinner parties, I love books, and I want to hang out with other makers in Houston and the whole world.
